Why are doctors resistant to learning about chronic Lyme disease?
The doctors who should know about Lyme disease, the infectious disease specialists, still teach that all Lyme is cured by 3-4 weeks of doxycycline or amoxicillin.
All doctors would love it if this were true; it would be very nice if it were so easy. Doctors are already bombarded by new information about so many other health problems: diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, stroke, heart attack, depression, that it would be great if Lyme disease were this easy to treat. But it just is not true.
A landmark study at Johns Hopkins University in 2013 showed that 36% of patients remained seriously ill six months after the standard treatment.
